Marjan Hofkes is full professor of Environmental Economics at VU University Amsterdam (Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM)). Over the period 2002 till 2009 she was head of the department of Environmental Economics of IVM. In that capacity she had direct management responsibility for about 20 research staff, mainly economists. In 2004 she was acting director and chair of the management board of the same institute. Over the period 2004 till 2009 she was deputy director of IVM. Previously she was a policy advisor of the Minister of Finance.
Marjan has extensive research and research management experience across a number of fields, including economic modelling, economic growth, endogenous technology and transitions, labour market economics and income policy, ranging from pure academic to policy supporting research. In 1991 she received her PhD in mathematical economics. Her more recent work has been concerned with the economics of sustainable development, environment-economy trade-offs and economic effects of floods. She has published in Resource and Energy Economics, Environmental and Resource Economics, Journal of Regional Science,Ecological Economics,Economic Modelling, Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, Energy Policy,De Economist,The International Journal of Environmental Technology and Management, Technological Forecasting and Social Change.
