Scientific Awards and Nominations 2010

Cees Withagen (Spatial Economics) was granted an ERC advanced grant, together with Rick van der Ploeg (Oxford University) of 3 Million Euro for the research project "Combating climate change: Political economy of green paradoxes".

Piet Rietveld (Spatial Economics) has been nominated member of the Academia Europaea as of October 2010.

Wendy Janssens (Development Economics) received a VENI grant from NWO. She will receive 250.000 Euros for three years. She will conduct research on Tanzanian entrepreneurship and insurances.

Wouter Botzen (IVM and Spatial Economics) received a VENIgrant from NWO. He will receive 250.000 euros for three years to conduct research on individual behaviour and uncertain risks of climate change.

Wouter Botzen (IVM and Spatial Economics) wins the junior societal impact award 2010 of the VU University for his dissertation "Economics of insurance against climate change".

Albert Menkveld (Finance) received a VIDI grant from NWO for his project "The social cost of liquidity".

Marius Rietdijk (Management and Organisation) was nominated for the LTP- Van den Bergh Award 2010 for his book "Gedragsverandering in organisaties".

Eveline van Leeuwen (Spatial Economics) and Jasper Dekkers (Spatial Economics) were awarded the Best Paper Award at RSAIBIS 2010 for their paper "Off-farm income opportunities. A spatial microsimulation of Dutch farmers".

Yuval Engel (Management and Organisation) received the Mozaiek-grant from NWO. The grant is for four years of PhD research. His research project is: "Firm founders' career capital: Utilizing the past to develop the future".

Peter Kroos (Accounting) received the Best Dissertation Award in management accounting of the American Accounting Association. The award is granted annually to the best doctoral dissertation in the area of cost/management accounting. He received the award for the PhD thesis "The incentive effects of performance measures and target setting".

Gerard van den Berg (Economics) has been nominated Correspondent of the KNAW (The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences).

Onno Bouwmeester (Management and Organisation) won the Academy of Management Award (the Benedictine University Award) for outstanding paper on ethical issues in consulting. He received the award for his paper "Legitimizing consultants: biased political actors or impartial advisors?"

Hans Koster (Spatial Economics) has been nominated for the SER MSc Thesis Award. The title of his Master Thesis was "The impact of mixed land use".

Erik Verhoef (Spatial Economics) has been appointed RSAI Fellow (Regional Science Association International). This honourful title is given to distinguished scholars in the field of regional science.

Andre Lucas (Finance) received a VICI grant from NWO. He will conduct research on "Measuring what changes constantly" for 5 years.

Henri Dekker (Accounting) won Greatest Impact on Practice Award. He won the award for his research conducted jointly with Professor Shannon Anderson on the contract design for interfirm transactions.
