The research program consists of the following actions:
- further develop and apply the general procedure proposed in the earlier
HC&M project "Geomorphology and Environmental Impact
Assessment" on several transportation systems using computer techniques
and geographical information systems;
- testing both the procedure and the techniques on a variety of European
environments with real case studies;
- perform assessments in collaboration with European public administrations
and private or public industries with which agreements or memoranda of
understanding have been set;
- design and validation of specific geomorphologic indicators;
- dissemination of the results of this research by means of scientific
papers, workshops, short courses and the publication of handbooks.
This project activity focuses on the training of young scientists and
their interchange within the network of laboratories, institutes and public
administrations
(see
the network
and
mobility
scheme). Research will be directed by well known scientists expert in
geomorphology, computer science, environmental impact assessment and land use
planning.
