Reguliersgracht Some people call Amsterdam ‘The Global Village’. Its historical roots keep it curiously cosmopolitan, yet at the same time it is very relaxed. It’s a youthful, cultural city that provides stimulus for creativity, but it is seldom very formal. It stands firmly on its past, yet looks directly at the future. Amsterdam is home to some of the best art in the world, has more canals than Venice, more bridges than Paris, and around 700 monuments in the city centre. But behind historical façades, you will find cafes, restaurants, and a buzzing nightlife.
