The Amsterdam Institute for Business and Economic Research Foundation (Amber) is the service organization for the contract activities (externally funded activities) of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEWEB) of VU University Amsterdam (VUA). Amber provides extensive, professional and easily accessible facilities to encourage the contract activities of FEWEB. Amber acts as the partner for faculty staff in all such matters.

Contract activities are for example research commissioned by third parties such as the EU, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, BSIK (the Knowledge and Infrastructure - Grants and Investments - Programme) and the World Bank as well as assignments for public and private sector organizations and the provision of financial and administrative support for symposiums, particularly the larger ones, organized by FEWEB staff.

Valorization of high quality research taking place at the faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEWEB) is a key priority of both VU University Amsterdam and the faculty. Not only is the research activity itself strengthened by the extra income generated, but also the output can be effectively utilized by society for economic and social benefit. The role of Amber is to facilitate this process for the faculty and the faculty staff.
