Spatial, Transport and Environmental Economics
The programme in a nutshell
This Master’s is a one-year programme worth 60 ECTS credits.
First semester
The first semester aims to provide you with a thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of economic theory and research methods in spatial, transport and environmental applications. From period 2 onwards, you will select at least four of the various core courses and optional courses. The programme offers you the possibility to specialize in spatial, transport or environmental economics, but also to widen your academic interests. You can take one Master’s course from another programme within the faculty or even at another faculty, subject to approval. You will round off the first semester with a research project, in which you will write a critical literature review of a coherent set of scientific papers.
Second semester
In the second semester, you will take further core and/or optional courses. The majority of your second semester is devoted to writing your Master’s thesis. To this end, you will carry out and report on an independent academic research project. The research and writing of your thesis will take about three months. You will write your thesis individually while participating in a thesis seminar, in which students present and critically discuss their research findings. Although an internship is not obligatory, you can combine your thesis with an internship. The teaching staff can help you find one.
